The big news in 2025 is that there are no significant changes to the structural rules for E/M coding and documentation this year.
There was supposed to be a minor tweak in the guidance for billing for split/shared services beginning on January 1, 2025, but there was no mention of even this minor change in the final CMS rule for 2025.
After several years in which there have been multiple tectonic shifts in the landscape of E/M coding, it comes as a relief that, for this year at least, we can continue to focus on understanding the current rules, rather than having to interpret new ones.
We are aware that there may be some changes coming to the rules for telehealth services, but these will not be finalized until after February. At that time, E/M University will explore the possibility of adding a telehealth course to all curriculums if there is sufficient interest on the part of our customers for us to do so.
At E/M University our courses are continuously updated to reflect any new guidance which may arise regarding the universe of E/M coding and documentation as the year progresses.
